NATURE'S BIG BUD
WORM CASTINGS, INC. was founded in
Campo, California in March of 2003
on a secluded ranch nestled in the
gentle rolling hills of the Laguna
Mountains of eastern San Diego
County. Here were to be found all
the necessary ingredients for a
successful venture. At an elevation
of 3,000 feet, the climate is mild
to moderate. The necessary
facilities were there and the
natural resources available. Once
owned by the famous Western movie
star, Tim Holt (“Treasure of the
Sierra Madre”), and purchased by
Lonnie Sole in March of 1998, this
historic cattle and horse ranch
promotes and celebrates the
authentic lifestyle of the American
Cowboy and the rugged west. Most
recently, it has become the center
of a modern large scale worm farming
(vermiculture/ vermicomposting)
business. Vermiculture/vermicomposting
combined is the art and science of
producing worms and introducing them
into an edible material for the sake
of gathering their manure (worm
castings) for gardening/agricultural
use. It maybe done in ones’ backyard
where yard and kitchen waste is used
as food, or, as is the case of
‘Legacy Ranch’, on a grander scale
for commercial purposes where tons
of organic horse manure are recycled
as compost food for the estimated
millions of worms to eat and digest
ultimately producing a highly
beneficial, organic natural
fertilizer.
‘Legacy Ranch’ still hosts cattle
and horses in abundance. But its
primary mission these days is to
produce tons of organic, nutrient
rich worm castings and brew them
with natural yucca extract using
pure mountain spring water into an
organic liquid blend for sale
nationwide. After what has been an
arduous nearly five year process of
trial, testing and development, the
end result of a protracted effort by
various and assorted people has
produced a superior product:

Key personnel making this adventure successful:

original bunkhouse now converted to a five

with original Western art and bronzes from his
father’s days as a Hall of Fame professional
horse trainer. He overseas the daily operation

and very much interested in the “Go Green”
aspects of the organics movement and how
chemicals affect our soil and water which has
been a primary motivator for the organic worm
farming endeavor.
Richard Buck

responsibility of the daily ‘grunt’ work of
composting, caring for the worms, brewing the
‘worm tea’, bottling and labeling it, and
sometimes even delivering. Richard is a

USMC. He was raised on a farm in Belfast, Maine
where ‘organic’ gardening was extensively
practiced. The extended family of grandparents,
uncles and aunts, brothers and cousins grew all
the family’s vegetables on acres of gardens
fertilized with composted cow manure. Dennis
became an avid garden buff at a young age and
has continued to advocate the natural aspects of
home grown produce. He is a staunch supporter of
organic gardening and limited use of chemicals.
He is responsible for Sales and Marketing for
NBBWC, Inc.

“I want and need to look at
‘America’ again and it seems to me
this ranch might be the proper place
to start...this ranch is somehow the
most ‘American’ thing I know…”
